The Blue Shield Spectrum PPO
A Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) is a type of managed care plan. And it's one of the most popular health insurance plans in the country.
With a Spectrum PPO from Blue Shield of California you'll get an affordable plan with the flexibility to find healthcare with any doctor or specialist you choose.
How Do PPOs Work?
PPO plans work with large "networks" of doctors, specialist, hospitals, and other healthcare providers. All the providers in the network agree to discount their medical services ý which means you'll have lower monthly premiums and lower co-payments.
You'll save the most when you choose in-network doctors and hospitals. But with a PPO you'll be covered when you see any healthcare provider ý inside or outside of the network.
How Does A Blue Shield Spectrum PPO Work?
The Deductible You'll start off by choosing a $500, $750, $1,500, $2,000, or $5,000 deductible. This is the amount you'll be responsible for before your Spectrum PPO plan starts to cover you.
When you're choosing your deductible, be careful ý a lower deductible won't always save you money. The higher the deductible is, the lower your monthly premiums will be.
The Features With a Blue Shield Spectrum PPO, you'll have coverage for many medical services. Here are some of the covered services:
- Preventive care. Including regular check-ups, physical exams, gynecological exams, well-baby care, and vaccinations.

You'll have to make co-payments for doctor's visits and other preventive care services. Your cost for these services ranges from $30 to $45. Prescription drugs are just $10 for generic drugs and $35 for brand name drugs. For other medical services such as emergency care, hospitalization, pregnancy and maternity care, and other outpatient services, you'll be responsible for 25% to 30% of the cost.
